Waste Heat Recovery from Air Using Porous Media and Conversion to Electricity

This paper presents a numerical study of waste heat recovery from fluid stream using thermoelectric devices. The system consisted square section duct with spherical porous media placed in its central region. Hot air circulates continuously through the and exchanges energy solid matrix subsequently modules. mathematical model was solved ANSYS/FLUENT software, requiring implementation user-defined functions (UDFs) scalars (UDS) regarding generation modelling. From simulations carried out, global efficiency electrical power values were obtained range [0.11–4.51] [%] [0.01–12.77] [W], respectively. Furthermore, for set variables analysed, it observed that performance is favoured by an increase inlet temperature speed, as well higher external transfer coefficient.
